MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HaiLa Technologies Inc., a company dedicated to developing ultra-low power radio technologies for IoT, announced today that it has demonstrated Bluetooth backscatter technology, a significant milestone towards extremely efficient battery and ambient-powered wireless communications.
Passive backscatter paves the way for reducing power consumption in connected devices to near zero-energy. HaiLa’s backscatter adaptation to Bluetooth uses a fraction of the power of typical Bluetooth or Bluetooth Low Energy radio architectures, enabling both smaller IoT batteries and the use of a single battery over the entire product life.
"In applications ranging from connected smart buildings to medical and consumer devices, end users we are engaged with seek solutions that extend battery life while also leveraging wireless communications protocols like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth,” stated Patricia Bower, VP Product Management at HaiLa. “The addition of Bluetooth backscatter to our ultra-low power Wi-Fi backscatter solution reinforces our commitment to meeting these needs, particularly for consumer electronics, and to delivering the most power-efficient radio technologies for IoT.”
As demand for connected devices soars, addressing their environmental impact is critical. Since the radio is typically the largest contributor to power consumption in battery-powered wireless devices, HaiLa’s achievements in aggressively reducing radio power will help tackle the growing challenge of battery waste attributed to IoT devices.
